I was looking for a way to serve up all the apples we had recently picked at an orchard I tried my hand at homemade applesauce and WOW! The stuff they sell in the store is an entirely different experience. My family loved the mostly mushed up version with pieces of apple (tastes so much like apple pie minus the crust). You can of course add another step and run this through the blender for a smooth version. Enjoy! |

Apples (cored and sliced) |
1/2 |
Large Lemon Juice & Peel |
6 Tbsp |
Brown Sugar |
1 tspn |
Ground Cinnamon |
Directions: |

Rinse, peel and slice up your apples (any baking variety, steer away from apples better eaten fresh like the Delicious variety). Use 1/2 of a large lemon (or one whole smaller lemon). Remove several large pieces of lemon peel using a vegetable peeler then squeeze the juice being careful to not include any seeds. Place the apples, lemon juice and rind into your crockpot. Add 6 Tbsp of Brown Sugar and 1 tspn of Ground Cinnamon. Put the lid on your crockpot and cook on high for 4-6 hours depending on your crockpot. To check doneness open the lid and stir. For a smooth applesauce scoop into your blender although now that I have had fresh applesauce with apple pieces I am in love! This is amazing served warm as a dessert or cold for an out of this world breakfast addition.
